Our History
Shaffer’s Cake and Candy Supply began as a true labor of love. In the late 1970s, Carolyn Milloway and her husband started a small cake shop out of their home in East Berwick, Pennsylvania, then known as Milloway’s. What began with cakes soon grew into candy making as well, and before long, Carolyn’s customers weren’t just buying treats — they wanted to learn how to make them. She happily shared her knowledge and began stocking chocolate and baking supplies so others could create something special of their own.
In December 1985, it was sold to Joan Shaffer, who lovingly grew it into what the community knows today as Shaffer’s Cake and Candy Supply. Joan expanded the store to include wedding, party, and specialty baking items, turning it into a welcoming space that was part supply shop, part creative hub for bakers and candy makers of all kinds.
As the business continued to grow, Joan brought Annette onto the team in 2001. Over the next 16 years, Annette worked side by side with Joan, learning every aspect of the store and building relationships with customers who had become like family. When Joan’s health began to decline in 2017, she sold the business to Annette, who carried on Joan’s legacy with care and dedication until 2022.
Moving Forward
In early 2022, David and Sara became the proud new owners of Shaffer’s. With deep respect for the store’s history, they are committed to giving Shaffer’s a bright future while preserving the heart that has always made it special. The business now calls 145 Main Street in Berwick, formerly known as Beach Haven, their home. Located within their beautifully restored church property, it is now a wedding and party venue.
Today, Shaffer’s Cake and Candy Supply remains a rare gem in a world of big-box stores — one of the few independently owned shops still dedicated to serving candy makers, bakers, and creators near and far. From local customers to orders shipped across the country and as far as Hawaii, Shaffer’s continues to be a trusted source for hard-to-find supplies and friendly, knowledgeable service.
Our goal is simple: to keep Shaffer’s thriving for generations to come by offering exceptional customer care and making sure candy makers everywhere have everything they need to keep creating, celebrating, and sharing joy.
